چکیده

The human leukocyte antigen complex on chromosome 6 is the most extensively studied genetic region in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Consistent evidence of linkage to IBD3 (6p21.1-23), an area which encompasses the HLA complex, has been demonstrated for both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. However, despite these efforts the HLA susceptibility genes for IBD remain elusive and unclear, a possible consequence of strong linkage disequilibrium, extensive polymorphism, high gene density across this region and different allele frequencies in several populations around the world. This article confirms the role of HLA complex genes in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis susceptibility, and principally the HLA-DRB1 locus.

P-145: Role of Human Leukocyte Antigen in Miscarriage

Background: During pregnancy, the maternal immune system is in close contact with cells and tissue from the semiallogenic fetus .The human leucocyte antigen (HLA) class Ib molecules, HLA-E, -F and -G, are expressed at the materno-fetal interface. Because of the apparent immunoregulatory functions of these proteins, they may be involved in successful acceptance of the semi-allogenic fetus during...

IL-23 Receptor Gene rs7517847 and rs1004819 SNPs in Ulcerative Colitis

Background: Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are two major clinical presentations of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Many novel candidate genes have been found to be associated with increased risk for IBD. Recently IL-23 receptor gene is identified as an IBD associated gene in genome-wide studies. Objective: To ascertain whether rs7517847 and rs1004819 SNPs in the IL-23 recept...

The Prevalence of Hla-b27 in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Patients in Jordan

Objective: To find out the prevalence of Human Leucocyte Antigen B27 (HLA-B27) in inflammatory bowel disease patients in Jordan. Methods: Over the last year (2005) all inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients attending the gastroenterology outpatient clinic at King Hussein Medical Center(KHMC), were given a questionnaire asking them to report back pain and the characteristics of this pain. The...

Personal viewpoint Epigenetics of inflammatory bowel disease

Understanding the causes and molecular mechanisms of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, the two forms of idiopathic chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), is a major challenge in gastroenterology research. Significant eVort has been invested in uncovering genetic and environmental factors which may increase the risk of IBD, but progress has been slow, and no IBD specific factors have be...

Effects of Probiotics and Prebiotics in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) including most important forms; Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC); are chronic diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract with unclear etiology and pathology. The role of gut microbiota has recently been considered as major a factor, since altered microbiome or "dysbiosis" is a key player in the protracted course of inflammation in IBD. Howeve...
